Lean Seminar Series: Lean in Hospitality

This is the 3rd workshop in the Lean Seminar Series for 2017, this workshop will focus on Lean in Hospitality, speaker is Paul Broderick, Pembroke Hotel Kilkenny

Enterprise Excellence in Hospitality – In this Seminar Paul will share some key experiences, insights, and learnings from their continuous improvement journey at Pembroke Kilkenny.

This Seminar will be of interest not only to those in the Hospitality sector and services generally, but also to those from across all sectors with an interest in continuous improvement, Lean, and enterprise excellence as it will emphasise the people side and getting “heads, hands, and hearts” committed to the continuous improvement and excellence journey.

About the Speaker – Paul Broderick has 17 years’ experience in hospitality, primarily at 4* and 5* locations. He joined Pembroke Kilkenny as Senior Assistant Manager in 2010, and in 2011 was promoted to General Manager. He has undertaken a number of improvement projects which have significantly enhanced the Hotel, including a complete rebrand as well as an entire refurbishment. The hotel has grown from 40 to 65 employees, and has increased profitability by 136% over 5 years.

In January 2015, Pembroke Kilkenny was invited on a journey by the Centre of Excellence Ireland to become the South East’s first EFQM accredited Hotel. Parallel to this Paul was doing the MBA at WIT, and taking a module in Operational Excellence. Having this knowledge, allied to further research on EFQM and Lean, Paul made the strategic decision to embark on a journey to implement the EFQM continuous improvement model within the Hotel. Pembroke Kilkenny was awarded the level 4 EFQM accreditation in October 2015, and Paul is currently working on achieving level 5, with accreditation assessment planned for April 2017.
